The Legal Technologist Programme (LTP) is a collaboration between CPO and KPMG. This programme is designed for legal professionals who work at the intersection of law, technology and business.
Combining CPO’s expertise in post-academic legal education with KPMG’s experience in legal transformation, the LTP supports lawyers in strengthening their role in a technology-driven and increasingly regulated environment.

AI, data and technologies are reshaping how organisations operate and how they are regulated. At the same time, regulation is expanding in scope and complexity, increasingly intersecting with technology and business decisions.
These changes are unfolding faster than legal teams can realistically adopt through traditional ways of working, creating mounting pressure on capacity, consistency, and keeping pace with business expectations.
Legal professionals are expected to engage earlier and operate closer to the business, translating regulatory and technological change into practical guidance, while delivering more with fewer resources. This creates a widening capability gap: expectations for technology-enabled, business-aligned legal advice are rising faster than many legal professionals’ ability to consistently deliver it at speed. KPMG’s LTP is designed to close this gap.

What capabilities does the Legal Technologist need?
The Legal Technologist is a T-shaped legal professional bridging legal expertise with tech, business and change. First and foremost, the Legal Technologist is still a legal professional, grounded in strong legal fundamentals. In addition, there are four essential characteristics, with each three core skills, that enable legal professionals to work faster, smarter and more strategically.

Peter Kits and Dorien van den Berg from KPMG and Ahlam Janati and Bart Smits from Radboud University’s Centre for Postacademic Legal Education (CPO) developed the Legal Technologist Program. They have focussed on a program that combines high-level academic knowledge with training in essential technical skills. It is delivered through state-of-the-art teaching methods and places a strong emphasis on practical experience, preparing participants for modern legal practice.
